AND BEYOND
SELF PORTRAIT AT CLOTHES LINE AND in BLIstERING SUN
I’m a driven screenwriter, filmmaker, journalist and musician with more than 30 years experience in the creative industries. I spent 20 years drumming and writing with the rock band Powderfinger. Since Powderfinger finished in 2010, I completed a journalism degree at Griffith University, worked for Indigenous education foundation Yalari, was a news reporter, multi-platform journalist and presenter at the ABC and co-founded a not-for-profit film event called the Sunny Coast Showdown. I’ve written over a dozen feature film spec scripts, a handful of TV show pilots and bibles and a bunch of short film scripts. I've recently written, directed and produced the survival thriller short, Wargs in the Wallum.
I struggle to pin down the film genre I love most, but it's probably a combination of thrillers, action and drama. A fresh dollop of humour helps too. Imagine Die Hard directed by the Coen Brothers? Also, I love a story that sutures me completely; that's so consuming I feel it deep in my bones. The characters that get me most are flawed and forced to deal with the mess they’ve created; the ones who don’t believe they can achieve squat but must rise to the occasion anyway. In the process, they learn they’re just like all of us - a messed up collection of thoughts and feelings, trying to figure out this strange world.
Feel free to get into this website - watch the films, read the scripts and synopses, listen to the music and podcast - and don't hesitate to contact me if you’d like to know more.
Cinema has always been my go to escape. I made my first short film in 2018 and have been fortunate enough to write, direct, and/or produce a handful of films since. I've also executive produced more than 20 shorts with the Sunny Coast Showdown, a not-for-profit event I founded with Dan Munday and the Sunshine Coast Screen Collective.
